2009 Adelaide IT Challenge: If your IT guys can beat me I'll give you an iPod

How to enter

Simply email your time estimate and brief details on how you would tackle it to andy.steven@uptime100.com.au

I will then do a one on one challenge with the lowest time I receive, a beer and pizza for onlookers as well.

Why should you enter?

1. Free iPod
2. Free solution summary
3. Free beer and pizza

Everyone that sends me an entry will also get a copy of all the proposed solutions and time estimates. I'm sure there is more than one way to solve this problem, are you currently doing it the best way?

Also every one that enters will get an invite for free beer and pizza to watch the challenge live.

I'm constantly being told by the Micro Soft lovers here in Adelaide that Lotus Notes is crap. It normally sounds something like this yadah yadah yadah, Notes is crap, Micro Soft is the best, (random Monty Python Quote) yadah yadah yadah. (IT conversations are very sad, that's why we can't get girl friends). Well I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is and challenge the Adelaide MS brigrade to a competiton. If you can beat me I'll give you an iPod Touch (one only to give away)

Please forward this to as many IT people in Adelaide as you can. If you forward this email onto someone that beats my time I'll give you an iPod Nano as well. We will also send a list of entries to everyone that enters a time estimate, it will be interesting to see how different people tackle the task. C'mon, what have you got to lose? Maybe gain an iPod and some knowledge.

The Challenge

Your clients know the power of being able to access their databases from a website, it also makes them more efficient, instead of fielding dozens of emails a day their clients can simply login on line to find status. Letting them Break free from their inboxes

The challenge is to simply build an online website that enables a client to login and see a list of their projects/tasks, and to also be able to submit a project online.

The finished result may look something like the following. The database needs to be secure (i.e. they can't access projects other than their own.), Don't worry about look and feel, or all the fields you need just get it working.

Terms and Conditions

OK, let's keep this simple, I'm a nerd not a lawyer, it's basically SBS 2003 Standard versus Lotus Domino, a 'fair' approach is to be taken, so if you try and win it by being tricky don't bother. Your tools are the one's MS supply with SBS, and hence the one's your clients are using, and MS Office Pro 2007. You can install extra (MS) software as needed, but not 'pre-bundled' solutions. Your starting point is Vanilla SBS install. My starting point is a Vanilla Domino install.
